As the Machine Learning Project Leader in the Front-End Innovation Team you will lead projects at the intersection of data driven algorithms in power tools, end user needs of the construction and landscape industries, and commercial challenges of a highly competitive power-tool industry. For each project, you will guide a highly cross-functional team to developing and implementing machine learning algorithms on power tool.

You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Front-End Innovation Leadership: Guide and influence teams thru R&D projects in Machine Learning and Robotics - from project scoping, reduction of the problem to its core quantifiable success criteria, development of methods to obtain/test for the relevant data, optimization of the model architectures, implementation and demonstration of virtual and physical prototypes, and conversion of the outcome to the next stage product teams (transition).

  • Infuse Disruptive Innovation thought processes around Machine Learning and Intelligence: Create, import, define, advocate, , disseminate a toolbox of innovation practices for deploying machine learning in the construction industry on edge devices, methods and processes; seamlessly integrate new methodologies and language used by internal teams. Advocate for intelligence capabilities and the value of our team capability within businesses.

  • Produce new solutions and innovations to the organization and our users – this role is directly responsible for inventing features and products we will sell to our end customers.

  • Define Completeness: Understand the downstream product development design processes (deliverables, timing, pitfalls) to anticipate where work will go and guide teams to deliver appropriate and effective solutions. Outline expectations and gauge quality of work to ensure output is complete and usable.

  • Team Leadership: Provide thought leadership to the organization including:

  • Sharing constructive feedback to inspire team members to produce great work and ensure they follow through with comprehensive attention to detail

  • Mentoring team on innovation methods, process, and best practices

  • Training colleagues on standards and techniques

  • Coaching team to develop and deliver presentations, linking innovation work to user insights, brand stories, and business strategy.

What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:

  • 2+ years of experience leading machine learning based projects.

  • Expertise with design-thinking methods, processes, tools, & creativity.

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience designing & engineering data driven solutions preferably in durable good products or embedded/edge devices.

  • Inventor: Irresistible drive to invent new solutions to old problems.

  • Creativity: Original problem-solving skills coupled with a hands-on approach.

  • Irreverence: Actively challenges behavior paradigm's both internally and externally.

  • Critical Thinking: Thrives in ambiguous scenarios in which the correct direction(s) is not yet obvious. Great at gleaning meaning from whatever data is available and making decisions.

  • Intuition: Knows the most effective and efficient methodologies to meet project goals.

  • Aptitude: Possesses strong machine learning and data to ground ideas but has a finger on the pulse of emerging technologies.

  • Communication: Up, down, and throughout the organization - speaking the lexicon of the creative, technical and the trade.

  • Time management: Skilled at planning & prioritization of tasks for oneself and the project team.

  • Cross-functionality: Works effectively with Engineering, Marketing, Industrial Design, & Design Research. Understands the strengths, value, and knows how to correctly utilize each member of the team most effectively.
